Six ways to practise

Play solo against the clock, one region at a time or the whole world. Pick a mode to start straight away.

Play Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, South America or Oceania on their own, or mix the whole globe. After each answer you can read about the country: population, language, a few phrases and the national dish.

Fill in your Atlas

Every country, capital, city and landmark you get right is added to your Atlas. Locked places stay grey until you find them in a game.

193 countries, 193 capitals, 152 cities and 80 landmarks to collect.

A geography game for curious minds

GeoJig turns world geography into a game you can play in your browser. Explore a 3D globe, find real places and learn something new after each guess. You can take your time in solo practice, invite someone you know or join online matchmaking for a friendly challenge. Here is how the different ways to play work.

How do you play GeoJig?

Choose a practice mode from the game menu, select a continent or the whole world, then start your geography quiz. Spin and zoom the globe to explore. For pin challenges, drag the person onto the place you think is right; closer guesses earn more points. In Which country?, a pin is already on the globe and you choose from four country names. After your answer, you can inspect the location and open country facts before moving on.

Which geography topics can I practise?

There are six solo modes. Capitals asks you to locate capital cities. Countries accepts a pin anywhere inside the named country. Which country? tests whether you recognise a pinned location. Cities covers major cities that are not capitals, while Landmarks features famous places around the world. Languages shows a phrase and asks you to find a country where that language is spoken. Practice settings let you focus on a continent or mix places from all six inhabited continents.

Can I play this geography game with friends?

Yes. Open Friends from the game menu, expand Create a private room and create your game. Share the room link with your friend, or send them the room code. Once both players are in the lobby, the host starts the match. Free private games have three rounds with one minute per round. Each player gets the same challenge, and both answers are revealed together so you can compare the distance and points.

How does online multiplayer work?

Choose Play online to join the matchmaking queue without a PIN. We look for another player first. If nobody joins within 12 seconds, you play one of three labelled bots: Pip (Easy), Scout (Medium) or Atlas (Challenging). Bot matches earn XP for your levels and global leaderboards when signed in. Online games have three one-minute rounds. The modes rotate between capitals, countries, cities and landmarks, with a changing continent or the whole globe each round. Stay in the search screen while you wait, or choose Cancel search to leave the queue.

Is GeoJig free, and do I need an account?

The core geography game, all six practice modes, online matchmaking and standard private games are free. You can explore and play as a guest without downloading an app. A free account lets you participate in global ranks when you finish online matches against another signed-in player. Optional Plus features are planned, but Plus is not currently on sale. See the Free and planned Plus options for the current feature list.

How do global ranks and the Atlas work?

Answer questions in any of the six game modes to earn XP. Solo practice, private games, bot matches and human matches all count when signed in. Each answer earns 10 XP plus 1 XP per 20 score points; skips earn no XP. Build an overall level and a separate level in every mode, from level 1 to 200. Ranks shows global leaderboards for all modes combined and for each mode individually. Guest XP and Atlas discoveries stay on this device; sign in before playing to save global XP.

Can I play on a phone or tablet?

GeoJig is designed for mobile and desktop browsers, with touch controls, an illustrated mode menu and compact round screens. No app-store installation is needed. A recent browser with WebGL2 support is required to display the 3D globe, and internet access is needed for multiplayer and online imagery. You can also choose Explore the globe for a relaxed view without a clock or score. Device performance and connection quality can affect the experience.
